Coaching in the 21st century: e-coaching
We are often on the move and partly live online. E-coaching is relatively new and I use it, when desired, in combination with one-on-one conversations. Especially for executives, managers and leaders with an international role, this can be a fast-working, effective form of guidance. You think, write, reflect, delete and send. And... within 12 to 48 hours you get a response that helps you move forward. You receive feedback, assignments and sometimes tips too. In a secure online environment you plug in whenever it suits you.
A must or an addition?
Like many developments, we have come to realise that working with screens does not only have advantages. You need self-discipline to 'check out' now and then. Attention and concentration are essential to 'feel happy'. A great deal of research is being done into the latter. The EQ-i 2.0 offers a spectrum of competencies that, in the right balance, increase your sense of happiness. Incidentally, when this test is used there is always a personal conversation first. While a personal conversation does involve travel time, it also creates space to prepare and, afterwards, to 'unwind'.
Privacy
In coaching, privacy is very important. Part of the online support takes place on a secure online platform.
