‘What have these twenty years brought you?’ my partner asks during our walk, and we think back to when I started for myself. After eighteen years of working full time as an employee, I wanted more free space to work directly with people and to combine this with my creative ideas and entrepreneurship. In this way I followed in the footsteps of both my grandmothers, who each carried the responsibility for a family business.
🏠 2006: things went a little differently. Together with a business partner I dreamed of a company in a beautiful building. I did ‘cold calling’; we approached our network. I had just returned from an acquisition meeting when I suddenly fainted. The GP, not my own, said ‘it is all in your head’. A young 38 year old mother, main breadwinner and just started for herself, that had to be stress.
From actively outward focused, to actively inward focused
The diagnosis was in. Yet I noticed that my body seemed to protest. There was a whisper from my subconscious. I listened: the answer was an aggressive form of breast cancer. The most extensive package was pulled out of the cupboard. From chemo, radio, immuno, to hormone therapy. My then 6 year old son was my focus: I wanted to see him grow up.
From full on acquisition, I was suddenly tied to the house. During the long period of treatments I decided to carry on with my practice. Every month I sent a newsletter to my network and I started a training in coaching. All in the confidence that afterwards I would be able to pick up the thread. Just before my first chemo, my business partner let me know via MSN that she was breaking off our partnership. My illness did not fit into her ambitious plan. Nor, in truth, into mine, but there you are.
🥈🏅 2006 to 2026
Now twenty years on, still with another life threatening condition, I am still here. Thanks to the trust of my clients, coachees and supervisees, I take great pleasure in my work. The special connections and the strength in vulnerability: that is what it has brought me. Because coaching and supervising are wonderful professions that contribute a great deal to the wellbeing of working people. Those who dare to take the step of going inward. That takes courage: something I never take for granted.

🥈🏅The anniversary offer Supervision
By now I am also a coach supervisor. To celebrate this special year, I have a special offer for coaches who take their work and reflection seriously. For those who want to know whether supervision is something for them, for those who are accredited or planning to become so. Besides my treasure chest of models and methods, I have a focus on emotional intelligence. My work is always tailored; I do not believe in ‘one size fits all’.
