Why coaching?
We think and feel all day long. The idea that we are rational beings is an old one. Fear of what might happen is one of the emotions that often govern our lives. How can you recognise emotions and feelings consciously and more quickly as a signal, instead of being swept along by them for a long time? My name is Valérie Docters van Leeuwen (pen name Valérie Docters Verswijveren) and I work as a coach and supervisor for the helping professions. WhatsApp me on: 06 45 308 813 or email me.
Coaching creates space
Coaching increases (self-)awareness and teaches you what motivates you. And that you have several choices. Self-knowledge, emotional self-awareness, emotion regulation, stress management, empathy and optimism are key words. These are some of the building blocks of emotional intelligence, which has the capacity to connect. What do you want and what can you do, where and with whom do you want to be? How do you become more agile and creative? With, at the same time, a clear view of what is achievable and what is not. In a careful, tailor-made coaching journey you create space and genuine behavioural development.
What I can offer you
My clients describe my approach as expert, careful, to the point, unique, in-depth, reliable and humorous. 'Trust' is a key word in my profession. It seems simple, but internal politics often require a lot of experience to know 'how the land lies'. Through my earlier experience as an employee, as both a communications adviser and a manager, I know a great deal about power and powerlessness. Together with experienced colleagues, including an organisational consultant, I provide guidance with both simple and complex development questions.
Who is it for?
Coaching is a popular profession for a reason. But it is also a genuine craft. A good conversation does not make coaching, but it can certainly offer handles for some questions. Coaching is for those who want, and are able, to reflect on their own actions. Who want to look at their own blind spots and to practise and apply desired behaviour. The Art of People has experience with people who need structure, such as with (prevention of, or recovery from) depression, burn-out, and guidance with ADHD/ADD and giftedness. Where necessary, we collaborate with, or refer in consultation to, the GP and/or general or specialised mental health care.
Supervisie
As a coach you often work alone. Like every coach you face ethical dilemmas, but in peer consultation the talk soon turns to how to find clients. Now and then a case comes up. Supervision goes further! In a safe environment you can discuss your doubts without having to fear judgement. Are you ready to look further?
What supervision is
The form of guidance called 'supervision' is still relatively unknown in the Netherlands. Supervision, however, offers a broader scope, in which the knowledge and experience of the supervisor can be actively brought in. The conversations are based in part on supervision models, including the 'Seven-eyed model' (Hawkins, Shohet, Ryde and Wilmot).
Supervision according to the EMCC
The European Mentoring & Coaching Council (EMCC), which is linked to NOBCO and the training, provides the following information about supervision:
