Effective and ethical leadership

Leadership development for managers and team leads | Dutch & English

Take the next step in your career as a manager or (project) manager. Connect employees across multiple generations, genders and different cultural backgrounds and life experiences. Dare to choose instead of making everything a priority. A firm foundation is emotional intelligence. Connecting not (only) from the head, but from genuine empathy. Emotional self-knowledge is essential for this. It can be different. Get in touch to explore the possibilities.

Boards, management & HRM

Integrity & code of ethics

To some it seems harmless. Until managers and team leads bring up 'incidents' in my management-team meeting or workshop. Said out loud, it suddenly sounds more serious after all. (Sexually) transgressive behaviour undermines a safe working environment. Meanwhile it is becoming visible in almost every sector that some regard codes of ethics and protocols as merely a nice exercise for others. Some CEOs seem surprised that this occurs in their company or organisation too, and say so loudly enough that the majority falls silent. The experts by experience try to survive and stay silent even harder.

The truly empathic and decisive HR department makes strategic plans, but the employee does not always benefit from them. Some HR departments are busy with protocols, so that the problem is regularly placed back with the employee, as if it is only her or his problem. Offer coaching not only to this employee, but also to the managers and the CEO. And teach these leaders that 'my door is always open' means nothing at all if their capacity for empathy is poorly developed or absent. When this basic attitude is missing, that one employee leaves... And then another follows, until someone finally realises that it is systemic and that the fabric of the entire organisation has been infected.

The Art of People coaching & supervision

Another example: photos are taken and shared in WhatsApp and other groups in which a person or entire (cultural) groups are ridiculed. Sadly, these are not isolated incidents. Have someone take an objective look at how it can be done differently in your organisation. The coaching and supervision of The Art of People comes with personal attention, focused on developing your leadership and your biases. It is not about apportioning blame, but about examining your own blind spots and tackling them powerfully. With the fifteen competencies of the EQ-i 2.0, based on the scientifically grounded and practically applicable Leadership Potential and Derailers, also in a 360-degree test! This way you can work on the fifteen scales so that you gain quicker insight into your quality, where your strength lies and what your shadow sides are.

  • From employee to manager: have you been promoted to a management role? When you lead for the first time, much changes. Your own communication, views, ideas and behaviour suddenly carry more weight. How do you make sure you bring your employees along and inspire them? In this journey you learn to develop your leadership and your capacity to connect;
  • Young professional: are you progressing quickly, leading (also) older generations and more highly educated people, yet sometimes missing the feeling of standing on firm ground? The journey for young professionals offers a framework in which you develop your emotional skills and those of your colleagues. Increase your emotional self-awareness, capacity for empathy and acting with integrity;
  • Executive coaching: and there you are at the top of the organisation. You know your themes and self-efficacy, but want genuine connection with others without losing sight of responsibility. Giving integrity a face in times when various glass ceilings and walls can no longer be denied. I create a safe environment where, with powerful interventions and humour, further growth is possible. Living and working from a more complete perspective than reason or (purely) financial ambition alone. Read more on executive coaching.

‘‘If you’re a leader and you want to mobilize your team, one of the first things you can do... is listen to them. Empathy is a critical skill to begin with for leaders because by listening to people and understanding where they’re coming from, you’ll have a better handle on how to motivate those people and what’s important to hem... That’s the first step in your ability to influence people, and influencing people is a critical skill for leaders’.Dr Steven Stein, CEO MHS
