How to never go to work dissatisfied again
How are you? Does someone at work ever ask you that? Of course they do. And what do you answer? Good, fine, excellent?
Do you ever also say that things are not going well, that you may not be in the right place and that you are thinking about giving your life a different direction? Or that you are dissatisfied with the way things are going, that you do not feel appreciated and do not want to carry on as before?
Every day on the work floor we deal with emotions. Those of our colleagues, but above all our own. In our grandparents' time you simply had to work and not complain, but in recent years there is more attention for emotion, and rightly so!
Feelings and emotions play a big role in understanding ourselves and in finding out where our ambition and motivation lie. Bookboon author Valérie Docters van Leeuwen wrote the book “Emotional Intelligence”, so that you can better understand the value of the EQ on the work floor.
Emotional intelligence and a fitting job
Even before you are legally an adult, society expects you to make a life defining choice. You choose a course of study and thereby largely determine what your future on the labour market will look like.
This does not mean that you always become happy if you find a job in line with your studies. Later in life your values change, which means the choices of the past can hold you back from your inner motivation.
Emotional intelligence, however, tells you deep inside what you want. For some this is already clear from primary school, but many people need time (or a career coach) to discover which job really suits their norms, values and identity.
And always remember that it is never too late to learn
